It’s hard to believe baby James has gone from this to this so quickly. His brown eyes were full of peculiar wonder as they followed me and my overzealous children around. Sweet brown eyes full of innocence and promise.

This week at I Heart Faces, the theme is photojournalism - a picture that tells a story. I took this picture at my cousin’s wedding. My uncle, a very unemotional man, got up to thank the rehearsal dinner guests for coming, and emotion and tears spilled out. Quickly followed in recovery by a joke, of course!

It was because it she got a new dress in the mail from her Granny in Scotland.

It was because the day was beautiful.

It was because we needed some girl time at the beach.

And it was because I don’t ever want to forget the way her eyes sparkle against the sand, how she twirls her dress, or how her red curls blow with the beach breeze.

These moments will never be forgotten.

This is Catie. She’s a swimmer, modest about how good she is, younger child, and although it’s not hard to make me notice my height problem, standing next to Catie made me feel very, very short. Lucky girl! She’s also goes to the school my husband teaches at. It made me laugh hearing her refer to him as “Señor Durik”. Catie did a fantastic job during her shoot. Even though we got rained on, her hair totally played along.

This past weekend, I headed up to Spartanburg, SC for an (un)Workshop. What more can I say than it was an amazing day full of getting to know fellow photographers and shooting a gorgeous model?
