If there was ever a time I was nervous about teaching a workshop, it would hands-down be this one. I lived in the UK for a short while a few years ago and know that I have a habit of embarrassing myself in front of British people. The awkward kissing greeting thing, the saying-stupid-American-things, the not acting proper enough thing.. I perfected acting foolish.

So, yes, I was nervous. But I think I navigated the day pretty well, despite the fact that the school had failed to include and HDMI cable in their setup and one of my models was a no-show (enter Michal, my technology brains with a solution, and my ever-adorable Chloe for filling in last-minute). I even remembered to say Nikon as “nick-on” instead of the American “NI-kon.” See? I’m bilingual. And most importantly, the ladies (and man!) were so kind and wonderful that even if I had done something foolishly American, they just smiled and pretended not to notice.
The grounds we were shooting on were just spectacular, and my models were just wonderful. I left that day with many new friends. What an amazing experience! I’m so grateful that it all worked out!

Tine, above, was a great assistant! And believe me, we needed that extra bit of light with the dark and gloomy English shy we had. But, luckily, it wasn’t raining.

Gracylu Originals did an amazing job with the head piece!

At my workshops, I let one-two people shoot at a time (or at least, everyone else has to be behind them) so that everyone gets a good shot. And if there’s ever a place with good queuers, it has to be Britain!

Such a fantastic group! Be sure to check out the links below for some more posts about the workshop.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible: the attendees, the sponsors, and my family, who put up with a lot of craziness. So where to next year? Australia?![]()

Ah Rachel, what a wonderful workshop that was. I both learned so much and have made some great new photographer friends. So when are you coming back to England to run the London (un)Workshop part 2?! Rebecca x
